Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD) is a term used to represent a range of lung conditions. Patients with COPD usually exhibit shortness of breath, difficulties breathing, frequent chest infections and a persistent cough.
There is currently no cure for COPD, but there are steps that can be taken to mitigate some of the symptoms. This includes stopping smoking, lung rehabilitation, and inhalers.
Tracheostomies are often a treatment option for end-stage COPD patients who are struggling to breathe on their own.
